A private residence set into a south-facing ridge, organised around the single view that made the owners buy the land.
The problem
A 22 percent slope, a steep-slope ordinance limiting disturbance, and a septic field that could only go in one place on 31 acres.
What we did
The house steps down the contour in three linked bars rather than sitting on a cut pad, which kept earthwork under the ordinance threshold and left the septic field untouched.
Outcome
Disturbance held to 1.4 acres of a 31-acre parcel, with the driveway following an existing farm track.
